Postbox Fairy

Calling all knitters (or those who would like to learn)

I've been thinking for a while that I want to get back into knitting, if only as a way of feeling productive when I'm watching television, and since there's nothing I particularly need in the way of knitted things for myself, I thought I'd do something for charity.

I've just discovered hugs for homeless animals - a charity that asks people to knit or crochet blankets for animals in shelters, which sounds ideal. As they say, the animals won't mind if the blankets aren't perfect, and I know my first attempts will likely be far from perfect, so even if some people would think it's a less worthy cause than, say, premature babies or children in refugee camps, at least with this I know I'll be producing something useful from day one.

Anyone like to join me? It'll go a lot faster with several of us! I checked out the list of participating shelters and there are several in the UK, including one in Luton which is quite near me.

Edit: by the way, if you want to use any of their patterns worsted weight is apparently equivalent to UK double knitting wool, and a conversion of UK to US knitting needle sizes can be found at http://www.yarnforward.com/needleconv.html
