Postbox Fairy

A new thing to eat my time....

Last weekend, I bought a copy of The Movies

It's an intriguing hybrid of two things: a) a fairly standard (though addictively well executed) simulation game along the lines of 'The Sims' or 'Theme Park World' - make money by releasing movies while keeping your stars happy and your buildings well maintained; and b) an extremely flexible piece of movie-making software. You can design your 'stars' (face shape, hair colour, costumes etc.); and then pick a set, and pick from a large range of different actions for them to perform (kiss, talk, get in a car...). Then edit it all together, add subtitles, and you have your movie.

Given that the fewer actors involved, the simpler it is, and given that digital actors are better suited to the melodramatic than the subtle, my first movie is one which plays on these strengths.

I present Richard III, Act I, Scene II. For those of you not familiar with it, it's the scene in which the villainous Richard woos Lady Anne after murdering her husband.

It's only 2 minutes long, so the text is very much 'edited highlights', but hopefully it makes sense.

If you can't see the movie from the link, click on 'Download Movie' on the bottom left. It's 2MB, so might take a while over slower connections, and its a .wmv file which means you'll need Windows MediaPlayer to view it.
