I've been feeling quite socially confident recently, and I'm wondering whether it has something to do with being married. Something about being more integrated, about putting down extra roots in some way which gives me a right (or even a responsibility) to take a more active role (like inviting people to parties and organising people in general). I feel like I'm now part of the mortar in the wall of society, rather than one of the bricks - part of the glue holding stuff together, rather than one of the things being held together.

I hope this doesn't sound pretentious or superior - I don't think there's anything better about being mortar than bricks, and it could, in any case, vanish in the coming days or weeks, but it's the first sensation I've been able to attribute to being married and interesting to me as a result.
